Wedding Dress Styles

Picking out your wedding dress is such a fun part of wedding planning. You get to go shopping with your family and best girl friends while sipping champagne and trying on pretty dresses. This is what you dreamed of when you were a little girl, right?! But, it can be a little overwhelming trying to choose one dress when there are so many different styles of wedding dresses! To give you an idea of what you want BEFORE you head to your favorite bridal boutique, here’s a list of the wedding dress styles you’ll be choosing from.

Ball Gown

The ball gown style wedding dress has a fitted bodice with a full skirt. Perfect for the bride who wants her wedding to feel like a fairy tale, and there’s no better dress to feel like Cinderella in. These dresses are great for formal, black tie weddings.

Mermaid

The mermaid style is sexy and sophisticated. Perfect for the bride who wants to show off her curves, or the bride who wants to give the illusion of an hourglass shape. This style is fitted all the way to the knee and then flares out to the floor. One thing to keep in mind is it may be more difficult to dance and move around in.

Trumpet

Trumpet style dresses are similar to the mermaid silhouette, but flare out gradually mid thigh rather than just below the knee. This is a great option because it still gives you the sexy, hourglass shape but is easier to move in and more comfortable.

A-line

The a-line wedding dress is fitted to the waist then flows out towards the floor in a capital A shape. This is a great option for the bride who wants a flowy, feminine look. These dresses are usually not too heavy and easy to move around in.

Sheath

A sheath style wedding dress is straight, simple, and light. It is a great option for all body types, but especially lean or athletic body types. This style also has lots of gorgeous options for the back of dresslike you see all over Pinterest.

Tea Length

These dresses are shorter than all the rest, falling below the knee but above the ankle. This style is a fun option for a more casual wedding, or even a vintage themed wedding! It is also a popular choice for second time or mature brides.
