5 Things To Look For In A Wedding Planner
Yay! You’ve made the decision to hire a wedding planner! You will not regret it. Hiring a wedding planner is one of the easiest ways to make wedding planning less stressful and ensure that your wedding vision is brought to life. But, what things should you look for in a wedding planner? We’ve compiled a list of must-have’s for your wedding planner, and they may surprise you:
- Personality You Vibe With
- Experience + Similar Design Style
- Pricing Structure
- Response Time
Let’s break it down!
Personality You Vibe With
This one’s a biggie. You’re going to be spending a ton of time communicating with your wedding planner. Make sure it’s someone you actually enjoy communicating with. You know that feeling you get when you meet someone and you just instantly click and feel like best friends? Yeah, that’s what you want.
Experience + Similar Design Style
Listen, there’s nothing wrong with taking a chance on a new wedding planner that doesn’t have a ton of experience. Especially if you’re looking to save money! However, just make sure you know what you’re getting. Ask about their previous weddings. Ask if they’ve ever planned a wedding at your venue, during the season you’re getting married in, outdoors, etc. In addition, you want to take a look at their portfolio and see if their design style matches up with yours. If you’re looking to have a trendy, bohemian wedding, have they ever done something like that? Do you actually love the style of weddings they’ve planned? You want to be sure they can bring your dream wedding to life!
A great trait to look for in your wedding planner is honesty. They know what works and doesn’t work, and they need to be able to straight-up tell you if one of your ideas is crazy or doesn’t fit into your budget. They need to be willing to be honest with you in order to make your wedding better. If they think the mismatched bridesmaids dresses you picked out totally clash, they have to be willing to tell you that. After all, how much are your girls paying for those?! And how much are you paying for the photos? You want it to be worth it.
This is another instance where you just want to be sure you know what you’re getting into. Is their pricing all-inclusive? If so, make sure you know exactly what all-inclusive is. That could be an overall picture/plan for the wedding or actual booking and coordination of all vendors. Or, is it more pick-and-choose specific services you need? Also, be sure you know how much the deposit is and what their cancellation policy is. (This is especially relevant in the current pandemic situation!)
One of the first things you should look for in all wedding vendors, but especially your wedding planner, is response time. How long did it take for them to respond to your initial inquiry? And all the communication after that? Again, you’re going to be in frequent communication with your planner, so response time is crucial. Not saying that we expect them to respond to you within 5 minutes, but a reasonable time frame (24-48 hours) should be met.
If you’ve got a wedding planner who you click with, has the experience and a design style you love, is honest, details their pricing structure, and responds quickly, you’ve got yourself a rockstar; now you can stop stressing. They’ve got the wedding planning under control and you can sit back and enjoy being a fiancée!
